Principal's Message

     A Message From Our Principal

Hello Everyone~ my name is Diona Iacobazzi or Ms. Bazz, as my Pershing family knows me, and I am beginning my sixth year as the Principal of Pershing School.  That said, I have worked at Pershing for my entire professional career. I taught 3rd grade for three years and 5th grade for ten. From 2012 to 2015 I had the privilege of being the Assistant Principal at this terrific school. Along with a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership I completed a Master’s program to become a Reading Specialist in 2012. Because I love to learn so much, I am now looking into getting my ABA.

I grew up about two miles away in Cicero and have always been a part of the Berwyn/Cicero community. I am the proud Momma to a handsome 9yr. old guy named Sonny. The two of us just love taking care of our adorable French Bulldog named Rodney. We are having a blast with him. In my spare time, I love to read and watch movies and I am ridiculously competitive.

Over the years I have developed strong relationships in this community. Pershing students, staff, and families are a big piece of my heart. I consider all of you part of my 2nd family. I am looking forward to capitalizing on the parent partnerships that we strengthened through the school year last year. I truly believe anything is possible when we work together to make things happen. Let’s do this Pershing! Let’s make this the best year yet! Let’s all support one another, communicate our needs, help whenever we can, put in all kinds of effort, and make some crazy growth! WE CAN DO IT!. I am looking forward to supporting #teampershing as we continue to climb the ladder of success here in D100.

Diona Iacobazzi

Principal of Pershing School

Hello and welcome! My name is Kristen Caprarola, more well known in D100 as Ms. Cap. I am joining Pershing as the Assistant Principal this year.  I feel very fortunate to be joining #teampershing and to be here in support of such wonderful students and families.

I have been in the education field for more than 15 years in a variety of classrooms and educational settings. I have worked with students in Kindergarten through High School as a general education teacher, reading specialist and school leader. I am coming over to Pershing from Heritage Middle School where I taught for the last 8 years as a sixth grade ELA teacher.  I am thrilled to continue my work with the Berwyn community and bring my experiences and skill set to this new role.

On a personal note, this year has been one of new beginnings for me! In November of 2020 my wife and I welcomed our first child, our son Finley. Family is a very important part of my life, the one you were born into and the one you choose. I am so eager to learn more about both the Pershing family and your families this year.  Outside of the school we enjoy traveling to see family and friends, being outside as often as possible and hanging out at home with our rescue dog Dottie.

It is my belief that high quality education starts with a solid team both at home and in the school building. When we set high expectations for learning in a nurturing and positive environment, our children can and will thrive. It is my goal that all students find success in education and we commit to bringing out their very best in a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment.
