A Message From Our Principal
Hello Everyone~ my name is Diona Iacobazzi or Ms. Bazz, as my Pershing family knows me, and I am beginning my fifth year as the Principal of Pershing School. That said I have worked at Pershing for my entire professional career. I taught 3rd grade for three years and 5th grade for ten. From 2012 to 2015 I had the privilege of being the Assistant Principal at this terrific school. Along with a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership I completed a Master’s program to become a Reading Specialist in 2012. Because I love to learn so much, I am now looking into getting my ABA.
I grew up about two miles away in Cicero and have always been a part of the Berwyn/Cicero community. I am the proud Momma to a handsome little 8yr. old guy named Sonny. The two of us needed some extra love during quarantine, so we also added an adorable French Bulldog named Rodney to our family. We are having a blast with him. In my spare time, I love to read and watch movies and I am ridiculously competitive.
Over the years I have developed strong relationships in the community. Pershing students, staff, and families are a big piece of my heart. I am hopeful that these relationships will help us create a REMOTE learning environment that helps all of our students grow and put their best effort forth. Though this year may look a little different, our staff, students, & families can still count on the open lines of communication and support from our school. I am looking forward to supporting #teampershing as we continue to climb the ladder of success here in D100.
Principal of Pershing School
Mrs. Eileen Piper-Simpson, is entering her 3rd year as the Pershing Assistant Principal & we couldn’t be more thrilled! Mrs. Simpson has been an essential piece to our Panther Puzzle this last year. Keeping our students at the forefront of all her decision-making has created an environment filled with a family feel! She has spent twenty-two years in the field of education. She worked for seven years in the nearby district of Westchester as a 4th-grade teacher. Prior to that, Mrs. Simpson worked with students in alternative, international, and public schools as an instructional special education teacher, resource teacher, interventionist, and general education teacher. For four-and-a-half of those years, she and her husband lived in Spain. Her ability to communicate in Spanish has been an asset in developing relationships throughout her life. The experience of living in and embracing another culture was a life-changing experience for her and her family. This summer Mrs. Simpson had to send her first born, Maggie, off to college, which wasn’t easy. She is also the proud mother to Asa & Audrey, who are high school and middle school students. Mrs. Simpson loves to garden, read, and travel! She believes that being trustworthy, dedicated, and an interested listener are essential qualities of an effective leader and empathetic individual. She brings these qualities as well as a passion for collaboration and an emphasis on being supportive of the Pershing community so that all students, parents and staff continue to be welcomed and embraced.
